SCHOOL TRANSITION SKILLS TRAINING

LBAs (BCBAs) will develop a school-transition plan based on assessment of your child’s current behavior and development to best prepare your child for entry into a school environment. Center-based ABA therapy is designed to promote and support development of school readiness skills through a child’s participation in various small group activities (i.e., circle time, movement and music, interactive games, and group instruction).

Skills targeted include following a schedule, transitioning, cooperative play with peers (sharing, turn taking, conversation), communicating needs and wants, using craft/art materials, gross motor interactive play, following small group instruction (ex. Circle time), and independence with daily self-help tasks (i.e., washing hands, toilet training, self-feeding, cleaning up after self). ABA therapy is reduced as each child demonstrates school readiness. ABA therapy can be combined daily with school attendance to make a gradual transition into the school setting.

OUR APPROACH

Applied Behavior Analysis

ABA is an evidence-based practice that involves application of systematic environmental modifications to produce socially significant improvements in behavior (Baer, Wolf, and Risley, 1968). ABA is an individualized and collaborative behavioral treatment approach driven by assessment and data.

Comprehensive ABA interventions are designed to drive improvements in specific skills that are foundational for more global developmental changes. Treatment may be provided for an extended period of time, and may occur in a home or center setting.
